Meet Emma, the proud owner of Plum Studio, a salon located in Port Macquarie, making a positive impact on both the community and the planet.

A Commitment to Reducing Waste

Emma has spent years in the salon industry and has seen firsthand how much waste a typical salon generates. Seeing the environmental impact, she decided it was time for a change. “Becoming a Sustainable Salons member was a no-brainer for Plum Studio,” she explains. Every year, the team at Plum Studio works to reduce their footprint, creating a positive impact for their community by recycling up to 95% of their salon waste.

Emma shares, “Our salon has been a Sustainable Salon for four years now, and we have never looked back. We love the fact that we recycle 95% of our waste in the salon, and our clients do too. The rewards points are such a great bonus; we can order our essentials like toilet paper, hand towels, and cleaning products using points only. All while keeping our footprint to a minimum. It’s a win-win, really.”

Benefits for the Salon and Community

As a Sustainable Salons member, Emma is able to earn points to spend on our Rewards Store, cutting costs on salon essentials like toilet paper, paper towels, biodegradable gloves and towels. This commitment to sustainability has won over their clients as well. For less than the price of a cup of coffee, clients are more than happy to pay a $3 Green Fee, knowing that it supports sustainability efforts that make a difference.

Inspiring Other Regional Salons

Emma’s journey isn’t just about her salon’s achievements; she wants to inspire other salons in Port Macquarie and other regional towns to take a step toward sustainability. Plum Studio is leading the way, being the first salon in Port Macquarie that is a Sustainable Salon. “It’s up to you,” she says to other salons in the area. “Start recycling and become a Sustainable Salon. We can all do better.”

If you’re a salon owner in a regional area and have been thinking about reducing your impact on the environment, now’s the time to join the movement. Follow Plum Studio’s lead and become a part of Sustainable Salons to not only make a difference but to show your community that sustainability matte
