Sustainable Salons On Tour: Good Vibes, Big Impact, and a Whole Lotta Heart

To mark our tenth birthday, we set out to visit the trailblazers who’ve turned everyday waste into world-changing impact. And trust us – it was anything but business as usual.

No awkward conference halls or stuffy presentations here. This was a series of energising, real-life catch-ups with the people who make our community so special. Here’s what we got up to.

Since 2015, Sustainable Salons has been on a mission to make every salon experience sustainable. With the support of our incredible members, we've diverted more than 2 million kilograms of waste from landfill – turning foil, hair, and even chemical leftovers into meaningful social and environmental outcomes.

But this tour wasn’t just about reflecting on the past. It was about revealing what’s next. Along the way, we introduced some of our latest innovations – PlastOil, the Hairy Brick, Soilz Alive, BioChar, our work with Urban Renew, and the EcoClip – each designed to push the boundaries of what's possible in salon sustainability. Every stop had its own energy, but here’s what brought it all together:

🎤 Member shout-outs – We celebrated some of the absolute legends in our network. From long-time salons who’ve been with us since day one to fresh faces making waves early, the love was real and loud.

💬 Let’s talk about the ‘why’ – We had honest, inspiring conversations about the real-world impact of salon sustainability – like how your plastic waste gets a second life instead of ending up in landfill, and how your recycled metals help fund meals through OzHarvest and KiwiHarvest. Every bin filled the right way makes a difference.

🧠 Guest speakers and Q&As – We invited some brilliant minds to take the mic and share their insights. From sustainability pros to marketing mavens, our guests gave fresh perspectives on building future-fit salon businesses. And the best part? The questions from the crowd. Sharp, funny, and full of curiosity – just how we like it.

💡 Innovations revealed – Attendees got a first look at some of our latest innovations in action – including PlastOil, the Hairy Brick, and the EcoClip. From checking out real prototypes to learning how they’re made and the powerful impact they’re set to create, it was a hands-on glimpse into the future of Sustainable Salon solutions.

More than anything, this roadshow proved what we’ve known all along. Our members aren’t just along for the ride – they’re driving the change. Every question asked, every best practice shared, every high-five exchanged, built momentum.

This isn’t a top-down program. It’s a community. And the tour was a reminder that the real magic of Sustainable Salons lives in the people behind the bins – you.

The final stop may have wrapped, but the movement is only getting stronger. We’re heading into the next chapter of Sustainable Salons with more innovation, more collaboration, and more ways to turn waste into wins for people and the planet.
