From Waste to Plates: Supporting Local Communities

At Sustainable Salons, every piece of recycled material tells a story of impact, and thanks to you, that story has a powerful ending: a meal for someone in need. Your foil and paper materials are sold to local recyclers with the proceeds from these sales donated to OzHarvest and KiwiHarvest to provide meals for those in need. Through your recycling efforts, we’ve now donated over 394,470 meals to those facing food insecurity across Australia and New Zealand. By giving salon materials second life, you’ve played an essential role in supporting these incredible organisations and their mission to fight hunger and food waste.

OzHarvest and KiwiHarvest are champions of food rescue, collecting surplus food from supermarkets, cafes, and events to distribute to charities and community groups. Their work ensures that perfectly good food doesn’t go to waste but instead reaches people who need it most. As Neil, a recipient of OzHarvest meals, shares: “Thank you very very much to Oz Harvest, who are able to supply food so the people like myself who are homeless have a decent feed. I'm a diabetic and yet I can still eat very well here so I consider myself very lucky.”
